The trailer of Akshay Kumar’s upcoming film Rustom was released today morning. After kicking off the year with two big films like Airlift and Housefull 3, Akshay’s next is based on a real-life incident that rocked the nation in 1959.
Rustom is based on the story of Naval officer KM Nanavati, who shot his wife Sylvia’s lover. The case is considered to be a landmark for Indian judiciary since it was the last case to be heard as a jury trial in India, as the government abolished jury trials post the results of this case.
Starring Akshay Kumar as the Parsi officer and Ileana D’Cruz as his wife of English descent, the film’s trailer takes off with an insight into the life of this officer. He is true to his wife and dutiful towards his country until he learns of his wife’s affair with another man, in this case Arjan Bajwa.
The three minute long trailer, quite clearly shows us the story with even the scene of Akshay trotting bullets into Arjan’s chest.
It further gets into sort of a espionage style drama as we are pulled into the plot of whether Rustom‘s actions are much deeper than what they seem on the face of it.
Esha Gupta is seen flaunting a vintage look as she takes on the baton to seek justice for her brother’s murder. Her look seems to be more worked upon than her act.
Considering that the case was one juicy affair, on the content front, the makers have a lot to hold on to. One just has to hope that their cinematic liberties do not lose the seniority and remarkable nature of this case.
