Fun fact: This is the first video that The Lonely Island did not direct and edit themselves. Big thank you to Brendan Walter for making this “lyrics video”.

  2. People are talking 'bout how they always had trouble with semicolons.
Aren't they just used to link together two sentences without using a conjunction? (Well, certain types of clauses, really– Semantics.)
Or was my 7th grade teacher lieing?

  4. Semicolons are best used when elaborating or expanding upon on a phrase; for example, this one right here where I'm expanding upon right now.

  8. The sad thing is, the whole video is was sitting there like "Sweet Jeebus, have I been confusing colons and semi-colons this whole time?"

Way to make me question my sanity there Lonely Island.

  9. I've watched this video possibly a hundred times over the last 4 years, and only just now did I get the (K)night/Young Squire joke.

  10. The examples in the video are not semi-colons. Semi colons join two independent clauses. One word is not an independent clause. What horrifies me is that in the comments, some claim their teacher used this *as an instructional video*. The video is fun, but not at all a good example of semi-colons: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/engagement/2/1/44/

  15. "Your birthday party sucked; no cake."
That's actually a half acceptable use of the semi-colon as it clarifies the sentence more than lists a name/example..
